Finally, the long-awaited vacation is here. But what do you do with your plants during this time? After all, not everyone has a friendly neighbor they can ask to water them.

Weeks, months, or even years are spent lovingly caring for your plants. Then you go on vacation and have no one to water them. myHOMEBOOK editor Franka Kruse-Gering shows a trick in the video that allows you to water your plants worry-free while on vacation.

What You Need

If you want to put the plant watering trick into practice, you only need a few materials:

  • An absorbent cloth
  • Scissors
  • A bucket or bowl
  • Water

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. First, cut the absorbent cloth into several narrow strips using the scissors. These should then be tied together to form one long strip.
  2. Next, go to the plant you want to water during your vacation using this trick and dig a hole near the root. This hole should be deep enough and ideally reach the root.
  3. Once this is done, fill the bucket with water and place it slightly elevated next to the plant to be watered. Hang one end of the cloth in the water in the bucket, and place the other end near the exposed root and bury it.
  4. The cloth absorbs water and transports it from top to bottom directly to the plant’s root. Since this process happens very slowly, you don’t need to worry about overwatering the plant during your vacation.
