DIY projects often involve upcycling. Old, discarded items are given a completely new function. In the new episode of “DIY for Animals” from myHOMEBOOK and PETBOOK, we show how to transform an old pair of jeans into a cute chew toy for dogs.
Dogs love to chew on stuffed toys, which can quickly get damaged. It’s hardly worth spending a lot of money on them constantly. Instead, make a new fabric toy from old fabric scraps. This way, the fabrics are reused, and the dog gets a new toy. Together with Susanne from “ikarusdoodle”, we show how to easily make a fabric toy for dogs from an old pair of jeans. A complete guide is available in the video above.
Fabric Toy for Dogs – What You Need
To make a fabric toy for dogs, you don’t need much. However, having a sewing machine will make the work easier.
Materials
- Fabric scraps (old jeans, etc.)
- Pattern
- Stuffing material
Tools
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Pins or fabric clips
Make a Fabric Chew Toy – Here’s How
The size and appearance of the fabric toy for dogs are up to you. There are no limits to creativity. However, the toy should not be too small to prevent the dog from swallowing it. Here’s how:
- Draw or print the shape of a chew bone (or any other shape) on paper and cut it out. You now have a pattern.
- Use the pattern as a template, attach it to two layers of fabric, and cut them out.
- Next, pin or clip the two fabric layers together inside out and sew them together, leaving a small opening of a few centimeters for stuffing.
- Turn the fabric inside out and fill it with stuffing material.
- Finally, sew the opening closed – done!
