With all the things that accumulate on a desk, sometimes there is hardly any space left to work. To reduce the chaos and keep things tidy, some items can be moved from the desk to the wall—with the help of a DIY wooden panel.
Is your desk full of work utensils and other odds and ends? There’s no more room in the drawers? There is a solution for such cases: Frequently used items can also be placed on the wall in the home office—on a self-made wall bracket above the desk.
How to build a DIY wall mount for your desk
Materials
- a plywood panel
- Varnish for sealing, optionally colored varnish for embellishing
- Foil or paper to protect the work surface
- a pencil
- small containers such as boxes, folders, or boxes
- glass cleaner
- a cloth
- An adhesive that provides a strong hold
- mounting adhesive or, alternatively, screws, dowels, and drill bits to attach the wall mount above the desk
Instructions
- First, line the work surface with masking paper and place the wooden board on small supports such as wooden blocks.
- Then paint both sides and the edges of the plywood board and leave to dry thoroughly.
- Next, mark the positions of the planned storage containers on the wooden board with a pencil—for example, for paper folders, plastic boxes, and pen holders.
- Then clean the backs of the containers and elements with spirit or silicone-free glass cleaner.
- Then apply a mounting tape vertically, cut it to fit exactly, and press firmly for five seconds, advises the DIY Academy. Finally, peel off the protective film and stick the objects onto the panel.
- The final step is to attach the finished wall mount to the wall above the desk—either with mounting tape or with screws and plugs.
