Give old things a new shine or create something new–with DIY projects, creativity knows no bounds. In the new episode of “DIY for Pets” from myHOMEBOOK and PETBOOK, we show how to cleverly hide a litter box using a tile cabinet.
It’s a common problem for many cat owners: How do you best hide the unsightly litter box? No matter where it stands, the large plastic piece just doesn’t match the rest of the decor. But there are attractive ways to at least partially conceal the litter box–for example, with a tile cabinet. We show you how to easily build one yourself, together with Susanne from “ikarusdoodle”. A step-by-step guide is available in the video above.
Building a Tile Cabinet for a Litter Box–What You Need
If you want to make the job easier, you can use a pre-made cabinet. However, you can also assemble it yourself from wooden boards.
Materials
- Cabinet
- Litter box
- Filler compound
- Tile adhesive
- Tile mat
Tools
- Sandpaper
- Notched trowel
- Scissors
- Spatula
How to Cover a Litter Box
Building a nice cover for the litter box yourself has the main advantage of allowing you to customize it in terms of size and appearance. Here’s how:
- First, use sandpaper to roughen the sides that will later be covered with tiles.
- Next, arrange the tile mats as a test and cut them if necessary.
- Apply the tile adhesive evenly and use a notched trowel to create grooves in the adhesive.
- Then, you can stick the tiles on, wipe off excess adhesive, and mix the grout according to the instructions.
- Use a spatula to roughly spread the grout over the tiles and wipe off the excess. Let everything dry thoroughly and wipe off any remaining residue.
