Keeping dogs or cats entertained isn’t always easy. A snuffle mat can help. Small treats are hidden in it, and the dog or cat is kept busy with the search game. The best part: You can easily make a snuffle mat yourself with just a few materials. We show you how, together with Susanne from “ikarusdoodle”. There’s a step-by-step guide in the video above. What You Need for the DIY Snuffle Mat
The big advantage of the snuffle mat is that you usually don’t need to buy materials; you often already have them at home. For the project, you need:
Materials
- Blanket (preferably an old one you no longer need)
- Sink mat
Tools
- Fabric scissors (or sharp household scissors)
- Ruler or yardstick

Crafting a Snuffle Mat for Pets–Simple Instructions
You don’t need much expertise to make a snuffle mat–but you do need plenty of time. The project requires patience, but you can also do it leisurely in the evening in front of the TV. Here’s how:
- Spread out the blanket and cut it into strips. Depending on the thickness of the blanket, the strips shouldn’t be too wide. Trim the strips to about 10 inches.
- In the next and final step, pull the fabric strips through the holes of the sink mat and knot them securely. Continue until the mat is completely covered.
By the way, the snuffle mat can (and should) be washed. Either by hand or in the washing machine. Be sure to use a pet-friendly detergent.
