With just a few simple steps, you can make significant changes in your home. In this “Easy Home” episode, myHOMEBOOK editor Katharina Regenthal shows how to transform a piece of rope into a stylish towel holder.
Many DIY projects are visually appealing in the end, but they can also be quite labor-intensive. Often, you need a lot of tools and materials to achieve the desired result. However, it can be much simpler. We show you in the video above how to quickly and easily make a towel holder from a rope with just a few materials.
What You Need for a DIY Towel Holder from a Rope
To turn a piece of rope into a towel holder, you don’t need much—and you can choose the rope according to your taste. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Thick rope (from the hardware store)
- Thin rope or cord (macrame cord works well)
- Wall hooks
- Hot glue gun
It’s best to have the rope cut to the desired length directly at the hardware store. Otherwise, you can do it at home using a utility knife or similar tool. For wall hooks, self-adhesive options are particularly practical. This way, you don’t need to drill and can change the position as desired.

How to Turn a Piece of Rope into a Towel Holder
The towel holder made from a rope is completed in just a few steps. You don’t need any special skills, making this project suitable for DIY beginners. Here’s how it works:
- In the first step, attach the thin cord to one end of the rope with hot glue to prevent slipping. Form a small loop, which will be used to hang the towel holder later.
- Next, wrap the rest of the thin cord around the thick rope, covering the glued end. Continue wrapping until nothing is left, and secure the end of the cord with hot glue.
- Then, repeat these steps on the other end of the rope to create two loops for hanging the towel holder.
- Finally, hook it into the wall hooks—and you’re done!
Tip: The holder doesn’t have to be used exclusively for towels. You can also hang toilet paper rolls, scarves, or shawls.
