Online, there’s a (supposedly) helpful and simple hack for every problem. For example, it’s claimed that you can repair broken dishes with milk. myHOMEBOOK tested whether this really works.
Some broken ceramic pieces can be repaired with a bit of glue, as long as the damage isn’t too intricate. The glue usually holds well, but often doesn’t look nice. However, it’s said to be much better to fix dishes with milk. A hack shows how a milk bath can make the cracks in a broken plate simply disappear—and the plate even looks like new in the end.
This video shows the hack (starting at minute 5):
myHOMEBOOK tested in a self-experiment whether you can really fix dishes with milk. For the hack, you need:
- broken dishes (such as a broken plate)
- a bowl
- strong adhesive tape
- warm milk
How the Milk Hack Works
The procedure is simple:
- First, tape the pieces of the plate back together using strong adhesive tape.
- Then, place the taped plate in a bowl.
- Now, fill the bowl with milk. It’s important that the plate is completely covered.
- The plate must now sit in the milk bath for two days. Note: You should place the bowl in a sealable location—the milk will start to smell.
- After two days, you can remove the plate from the bowl.
