The compass is part of school supplies, but later on, few people have it on hand. So what do you do if you need to draw a circle and have no idea where you banished your compass? A simple trick helps!
Whether for crafts, working with wood, or other materials–you might need a perfectly shaped circle. If you don’t have a compass, you don’t need to buy one or abandon the project. With a trick and little effort, you can draw circles.
Trick to Draw a Circle Without a Compass
Materials
- Pencil
- Scissors
- String
- Needle
- Material from which a circle is to be cut out (in this example, a piece of cardboard)
Also interesting: With this trick, you’ll never search for the start of the tape again
Instructions
- Cut a piece of string depending on the desired diameter of the circle. Since the string needs to be doubled, plan for double the length.
- Bring both ends of the string together and tie a knot at the desired length to create a loop.
- Now, use the cardboard. Insert the needle in the center and place the loop around it. Carefully stretch the string and insert the pencil at the other end. Keep the string taut using the needle and pencil.
- Then simply guide the pencil around the needle to draw a circle. Make sure the string remains taut, as this ensures the circle is truly round.
- Finally, remove the needle and string and cut out the pre-drawn circle. Done!
