Most of the time spent cooking involves preparing the ingredients. Peeling garlic can quickly become a lengthy test of patience, as few people know a simple trick that makes the task easier.
The garlic plant is a type of leek, with bulbs that can grow as large as apples and are used in many households to season dishes. A garlic bulb contains between ten and twelve cloves, also known as segments. Both the bulb and the cloves are covered by a skin, similar to onions, which can sometimes be stubborn when peeling.
3 Tricks to Peel Garlic
There are several ways to free them from this skin.
Shake Garlic
For the quickest method, especially suitable for multiple cloves, you’ll need a jar with a lid. First, cut off the ends of the garlic, then place the cloves in the jar and seal it tightly. Shake it vigorously to peel the garlic. The emphasis is on “vigorously,” as only then will the skin truly separate from the cloves.

Crush Garlic

For this trick, you’ll need an object like a knife or another hard kitchen utensil with a wide surface and a board. Place the clove in front of you and simply press down on it with the utensil. The skin separates from the clove and can then be easily removed.
Soak Garlic
This trick requires a bit more time. You need to soak the cloves in water for two to three hours. Afterward, the skin can be removed more easily.
