Cleaning the Bed Frame–Here’s What Matters
Only by regularly cleaning the bed frame can you ensure adequate hygiene and extend the furniture’s lifespan. Cleaning can be done quickly when you’re already changing the bed linens or cleaning the mattress. Once the mattress is lifted out of the bed box, you can pull out any containers from under the bed and then easily vacuum and wipe down the bed frame. How you proceed and which products to use depends on the material of the bed frame.

Wooden Bed Frame
For a wooden bed frame, simply wiping it down is sufficient. It’s best to use a dry cloth. For heavier dirt, you can use a slightly damp cloth. Be sure to dry the surfaces afterward to prevent moisture from seeping into the wood.
Faux Leather Bed Frame
For faux leather surfaces, a slightly damp cloth is enough for wiping. Occasionally, you can apply special lotions to maintain the material.
Fabric-Covered Bed Frame
Fabric bed frames should be cleaned weekly by vacuuming, ideally with an upholstery attachment. Stains should be removed with a slightly damp cloth–make sure to dry thoroughly afterward, or the fabric may absorb moisture and swell.
Genuine Leather Bed Frame
If you have a genuine leather bed, it’s best to wipe it down weekly with a slightly damp cloth. Stains and acute dirt should only be removed with a special leather cleaner. Every few months, it’s advisable to treat the bed with a special care product.
If the cover is made of aniline or suede leather, cleaning the bed frame is a bit more complicated. Only special cleaners for open-pored leather should be used. Additionally, you should dab rather than rub to avoid damaging the material.
