When was the last time you changed your bed linens? If this question makes you pause, it’s probably been too long. You’re not alone, as a survey indicates.
It’s delightful to snuggle into a freshly made bed! However, Germans don’t enjoy this as often as one might think, according to a recent survey. Find out how often you should change your bed linens and how often it actually happens in households here.
How Often You Should Change Your Bed Linens
Pillows and duvets should be changed at least every two weeks, as recommended by the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW). This is because we sweat and shed skin cells at night. Find out the best temperature to wash your bed linens here.
Yet not everyone follows this advice, as a GfK survey commissioned by the online retailer Galaxus shows. About four in ten Germans change their bed linens less frequently than recommended.

Around 33 percent reported doing it only monthly. About 6 percent wait two to three months to change their bed linens–and about 1 percent take even longer.
On the bright side, about 41 percent follow the recommendation. Nearly 18 percent of respondents change their bed linens weekly. Incidentally, this frequency is recommended by IKW for those who sweat heavily at night or sleep naked. For just over 1 percent, changing the bed is even a daily routine.
The survey included 1,500 people aged 16 to 74. It is intended to be representative of the population in Germany.
