4 Reasons Why I Love to Redecorate in the Fall
For everyone, decorating their home means something different. Some see it as an expression of their personality, while others just want their four walls not to look bleak and empty. I clearly belong to the former group. For me, redecorating my apartment is part of every season. But in fall, my desire for new decor is much stronger than in other seasons.
1. Winter Is Coming
What is actually a quote from a well-known fantasy series is a pretty big step for me. I’m a summer person. Cold, rain, and shorter days make me tired and sometimes even bring me down. For me, fall means that I have to wear sweaters again for half a year, commute in the rain, and deal with a sometimes rather negative end-of-year mood. And then the so-called cocooning effect kicks in: When I prepare my apartment for fall, it’s mainly because I want to make my home as cozy and beautiful as possible when it’s dreary and cold outside. Table runners in autumnal orange tones and thin string lights on mirrors or the bed give me a sense of comfort even in the dark season.

2. Everything Changes – and So Do I
Not every change is automatically good. Who thinks that? But four times a year, the weather, holidays, and daylight hours change, and so do I. Why should my home stay the same? I usually change not only the decor. Along with more autumnal pillow covers, small and large decorative pumpkins, or colorful artificial leaves, I also like to move the couch around and sort out old clothes.
It can also happen that I buy some new furniture, swap out old photos for new ones, or even change the room layout. Over the years, I’ve learned that changes don’t always have to be annoying. Sometimes I just create them for myself.
3. Romance, Idyllic – but with Elegance
Around Christmas, things can get extremely kitschy for me–with glowing Santas or ugly Christmas sweaters. In spring, it’s very playful, with the most colorful Easter eggs and floral tablecloths. Summer then comes with a bright pink or vibrant green in the decor. But in fall, I notice that I need a bit more elegance. The strong contrasts are gone. Instead, earthy tones move into my home. Paired with a few tealights in golden glasses and bedding in more subdued brown tones, everything looks much more elegant.

4. In Fall, My Connection to Nature Is Strongest
In summer, I love sunbathing–but more by the pool than at the lake. In spring, my pollen allergy catches up with me. In winter, I like snow, but when everything melts and gets slushy, it no longer gives off winter vibes. In fall, however, I love the closeness to nature. Even though the cold and rainy days aren’t my thing, the colorful leaves and the peaceful atmosphere in the streets, as the leaves slowly fall from the trees, all contribute to a sense of inner peace. And in some hectic phases of life, I find that particularly important.
