Oversized shapes, bright colors, and extraordinary designs define the Swede–and soon, thanks to a collaboration with Ikea, we can all have a bit of Gustaf Westman in our homes. The Swedish furniture giant and the designer have teamed up–the collection is set to be available in fall 2025.
Gustaf Westman and Ikea Team Up
Together with Gustaf Westman, Ikea aims to reinterpret the tradition of celebrating, such as through a shared meal with loved ones. The idea is that every day can be a reason to celebrate. In a press release, Ikea product developer Magdalena Walther stated that they want to inspire each other, question conventions, and rediscover celebrating for today’s people.
Furthermore, Ikea intends to create festive atmospheres that reflect how people celebrate meaningful moments in different ways. Gustaf Westman plans a bold and expressive mood that invites younger generations to celebrate in their own way. Westman explains that it’s an opportunity for him to turn traditional holiday aesthetics on their head and introduce a sense of playfulness and boldness.
According to Ikea, there will be three interpretations–the Swedish company itself focuses on classic traditions. Besides Gustaf Westman, designer Evelina Kroon is also part of the collaboration. She aims to combine classic rituals with modern accents.
Ikea states that the collection is set to launch in fall 2025–the exact date and the number of pieces are not yet known. It is speculated that the collection could be available from September or October. Additionally, the collection is expected to be available worldwide, according to a comment on Instagram.
What Can We Expect?
The press release from the Swedish furniture company hints at the type of collaboration it might be. Coming together, being together, and celebrating are to be emphasized. There might be dishes, tableware, and decor. Textiles like tablecloths or pillow covers could also fit. However, we’ll have to wait for more details.
Who Is Gustaf Westman?
Born in Sweden in 1993, Gustaf Westman is one of the most sought-after designers of our time. His style is colorful, loud, playful, very original, and above all, striking. His designs are characterized by rich colors and organic shapes. He is best known for his roughly curved plates and large-format mirrors in a curvy design.
Recently, Westman made waves with his collection for Mercedes-Benz. He designed, among other things, a car with a retractable picnic table at the back, a side mirror that functions as a table mirror, and a plate in the design of the iconic Mercedes star.
