In addition to cotton, linen, or silk, bamboo has also become established as a material for bed linens. But who is this fabric suitable for, and what are its advantages over the others?
Bamboo has emerged as a preferred material in many household areas, often being more sustainable than other materials depending on cultivation, extraction, and export. Nowadays, there is also bedding made from this grass, which is said to have many positive properties.
What Are the Benefits of Bamboo Bedding?
1. Exceptionally Smooth
When thinking of bamboo, most people probably find it hard to imagine a pleasant fabric feel. However, towels or bedding made from bamboo feel as smooth as silk or cashmere. So, there’s no need to worry about comfort in bed.
2. Antibacterial, Breathable, Absorbent
A major advantage of bamboo is its natural antibacterial properties, making it particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. Additionally, bamboo fabric is more absorbent and breathable than cotton, for example. This means you sweat less, and any moisture is regulated by the fiber. As a result, dust mites find it harder to spread in bamboo bedding.
3. Sustainable
Depending on the place and method of production, bamboo is a sustainable, renewable material. Whether it was grown ecologically and without the use of pesticides or other chemicals is indicated by certain certifications, such as the one from Oeko-Tex.
Note: myHOMEBOOK asked the Consumer Center and Stiftung Warentest for an assessment of bamboo bedding. Unfortunately, neither institution could provide a verdict—a test has not yet been conducted.
How Should You Clean Bamboo Bedding?
The bedding should be washed at 40 degrees Celsius. It’s best to use liquid detergent and avoid fabric softener.
