Dusting is a chore that hardly anyone enjoys. Often, the swept-up dust gets stirred up and leaves the dustpan right away. A simple trick can prevent this.
Dust is found in every home. The less frequently you clean, the thicker the layer of dust gradually becomes on surfaces. To prevent dust from spreading throughout the home while sweeping, a specific technique can be used. A simple trick during preparation ensures the dust stays in the dustpan. All you need is a spray bottle and some water.
Sweep Dust Without Stirring It Up
It’s important to prepare the tools properly before you start sweeping the dust. You’ll need:
- Hand broom and dustpan
- An empty, rinsed-out spray bottle
- A damp cloth or rag
Here’s how it works: First, fill the spray bottle with some water. Simply spray the dustpan before sweeping. When you sweep the dust into the pan, the moisture helps it stick to the pan. After sweeping, you can easily wipe the dust away with a damp cloth. Then, just dry the pan–done.
In this video, you can see how the trick works if you don’t have a dustpan on hand:

Mistakes When Dusting
There are also some mistakes that can make dusting more difficult. For example, you shouldn’t clean with a damp cloth. Why this is the case and what other mistakes you can avoid, read in this article.
