SMT stands for “Steady Mesh Technology.” The hoses are made of five layers, intricately linked, making them more stable compared to other fabric types. To assess this, the editorial team conducted a practical test with a garden hose made of SMT fabric.

Unrolling
For the test, a 25-meter-long SMT garden hose with a diameter of 1/2 inch (13 millimeters) was used. The stable material is noticeable even when unrolling, as the hose cannot be compressed.

Standard fittings like hose connectors or nozzles can be easily attached to the hose–even from other manufacturers.
Watering the Garden
Now to the crucial part–watering the garden. If you leave the hose unrolled on the ground and walk a few meters through the garden, it unwinds on its own without forming loops or twisting. Even over longer distances, the hose does not kink. Even if you deliberately–with firm pressure–kink the hose, it unfolds again in seconds.

The difference in material and stability of the garden hose with SMT fabric compared to conventional hoses is quickly noticeable. When you unroll the hose and pull it a few meters through the garden, it untangles itself without forming loops or kinks. However, to truly assess the long-term benefits of SMT fabric, the hose needs to be tested over a longer period. The cost for the 25-meter hose is 39.90 euros.
