Having your own workbench is great–but not everyone has the space for it. The “Multibex,” a modular assembly stand introduced on “Die Höhle der Löwen” (The Lion’s Den), could solve this problem. But is the system also suitable for DIY enthusiasts? myHOMEBOOK spoke with the inventor.
An assembly table essentially consists of two sawhorses with a board on top–voilà, a work surface. Sebastian Radeck, 42, a trade fair builder from Dortmund, knows a common problem: “There’s one thing we need on every construction site: assembly stands and work tables. And there’s one thing that’s a complete disaster on every construction site: assembly stands and work tables.” The result: Workers kneel on the ground, putting unnecessary strain on their backs and knees.
That’s why Radeck developed a multifunctional assembly stand system called “Multibex”, which he presented on “Die Höhle der Löwen” (VOX, April 15, 2024). It’s designed not only for professional craftsmen but also for DIY enthusiasts. For an investment of 150,000 euros from a Lion investor, he would give up 25 percent of the company’s shares.
How the Founder Came Up with the Idea
Professional craftsmen can be unable to work for up to 20 days a year because they lack proper work surfaces on site, Radeck explains. An alternative is makeshift work tables, which are often unstable. Additionally, standard sawhorses take up more space in the assembly vehicle. “Multibex” aims to solve these problems.
By the way: The name combines the material “Multiplex” and “ibex,” the English word for mountain goat, as Radeck explained to myHOMEBOOK.

What’s Special About “Multibex”
Trade fair builder Radeck has already patented his self-developed assembly stand system. It consists of a three-part plug-in system that can be assembled and disassembled quickly. It is also adjustable to four different heights.
Specific grooves in the material provide storage space for tools, such as a level. “Multibex” offers twelve functions. The side parts are height-adjustable, allowing for compensation on stairs. A full Euro pallet fits between the two side parts to expand the surface. With a few simple steps, the work surface can be disassembled and stored compactly.
Why Multiplex Is Used as the Material
The system’s components are made of 19-millimeter thick multiplex. According to Radeck, the wood material is “particularly break-resistant and dimensionally stable” and can support up to 300 kilograms. “The material is also excellent for load-bearing and stressed constructions,” the inventor explains.

Is the System Worth It for DIY Enthusiasts?
The founder sees his product with over twelve functions not only for professional craftsmen. According to Radeck, the system can also be useful in the garden, household, hobby workshop, or even when wallpapering.
“Even purchasing the raw material multiplex is costly,” Radeck justifies the pricing to myHOMEBOOK. “Manufacturing takes place in several production steps exclusively in Germany.” A significant part involves the manual processing of the components. The price of just under 180 euros also includes packaging and shipping. “The quality and indestructibility of the product justify the price in any case,” Radeck concludes.
Interesting System, but Not Exactly Cheap
At just under 180 euros, “Multibex” is no bargain. Good assembly systems for DIY enthusiasts are also available for under 100 euros. In many cases, two simple sawhorses and a wooden board suffice for a makeshift work surface. These can also be stored compactly and assembled and disassembled with a few simple steps.

How Safe Is the System?
myHOMEBOOK also inquired whether “Multibex” has been tested by safety experts. The assembly stand system has been “tested daily on our own assembly sites for over five years,” was the response, having been “subjected to the toughest stress tests.” Radeck’s motto: “From practice, for practice.” An independent review has not taken place.

With his assembly stand, Radeck ventured into “Die Höhle der Löwen,” hoping for a financial boost of 150,000 euros. In return, he would have given up a quarter of the company’s shares. Unfortunately, he didn’t secure a deal, but he remains optimistic: “Of course, we hope that the show’s exposure will significantly increase our product’s recognition. The many advantages the system offers are quick and easy to understand, so we expect a strong increase in demand. Our specific goals are the gradual expansion of our distribution network and our online trading platform.”
