In everyday life, things often end up on the floor. And such mishaps frequently leave their marks. With the right tips, however, scratches, dents, and the like can be effectively concealed. An interior designer shares the best tricks.

Cracked tiles or scratches in the parquet are annoying but can occur after years of use. Such a flaw doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the floor; it can still be concealed. With these tips, an unsightly floor can be beautified again!

Rug as a Quick Concealment Aid

The simplest and most affordable solution to conceal an unsightly floor is a rug. Quickly chosen, it can be rolled out just as quickly. Smaller flaws in the flooring can be effectively covered with furs or runners. For a nearly completely unattractive floor, only an XXL-sized rug will help.

Damaged or unsightly floors can be most easily concealed with rugs. For scratches in various places in the room, the layering technique helps.

Alternatively, layering rugs can be a solution, meaning the overlapping of individual rugs. These come in countless colors and designs to choose from and can be swapped out at any time. And incidentally, they also keep your feet cozy and warm.

Conceal Individual Tiles with Foil or Paint

If a jewelry box falls to the floor in the bathroom, a tile may not always withstand the mishap. If individual tiles are now cracked, the entire floor doesn’t need to be replaced. A foil or paint coating can help here. But beware: For designs that cannot be undone, you should first obtain permission from the property management or owner.

Foil or paint coatings are also advisable because the floor structure is crucial in bathrooms. If it becomes too high, it can lead to space issues. Both foil and paint are available in numerous colors and patterns at hardware stores. These coatings are also recommended for older bathrooms, which often have monochrome tiles on walls and floors with some unsightly decorative tiles. These can be specifically concealed with foil or paint. Ideally, you should treat additional individual tiles with the chosen coating to create the impression that the new pattern was intentionally selected.

Repair Entire Tile Floor with PVC or Vinyl Flooring

In the case of a very old, damaged, or unsightly floor, consider not just concealing it but completely renovating it. This can also be solved with a foil or paint coating, but it would require significant effort and precision work. Therefore, a new PVC or vinyl flooring, which can be easily laid over the old tile floor, is recommended for a full-surface repair of the unattractive floor.

Vinyl flooring is available for clicking and gluing. Click vinyl can be laid floating, while vinyl flooring for gluing requires the tile substrate to be filled beforehand. PVC can also be optimally laid over tiles as an elastic floor covering and is available in numerous colors and designs, just like vinyl. Completely replacing a floor covering has the practical side effect of giving the room a whole new look.

Free Vinyl Flooring from Flaws with Repair Kit

If a vinyl floor has acquired some flaws over the years, you can often help yourself. Some vinyl flooring manufacturers offer repair kits for this purpose. These contain special waxes to perfectly conceal and refill cracks, holes, or scratches. If the vinyl flooring is coming loose at the corners, appropriate vinyl adhesives can help.

Sand Wooden Floor

The character of a parquet floor includes its natural appearance. However, this beauty has its limits, especially when the floor becomes increasingly marked by scratches, dents, and blemishes over the years. If you wait too long, the effort to remove all these marks grows. Sanding is necessary here–and in several passes. Finally, the floor should also be sealed with wax or oil so that it looks new again and sounds old.

Repair Dents in Laminate with Wax

Dents in laminate are not quite as easy to repair, but due to their natural surface texture, they are usually not immediately noticeable. Where a parquet floor can potentially be sanded down, special repair kits from the hardware store help in the case of laminate. These work similarly to a plastic floor covering: simply fill the dent with the matching colored wax, carefully sand, and level it–done!
