The ceramic cooktop is undoubtedly one of the main features in the kitchen–it’s where frying, cooking, and heating take place. Unfortunately, grease splatters, water spots, and milky streaks are almost inevitable. Due to the high heat exposure, they quickly become stubborn. The good news: You don’t necessarily need an aggressive special cleaner for renewed shine. A simple dishwasher tablet can work wonders. myHOMEBOOK tested whether you can clean a ceramic cooktop with a dishwasher tablet.
All-in-one tablets not only ensure that stubborn dirt disappears from plates, pots, and cutlery in the dishwasher, but they also bring shine to glass and ceramic surfaces. This is made possible by a well-thought-out combination of active ingredients, including grease removers, water softeners, and cleaning and brightening substances that are supposed to effectively remove even baked-on residues. All these properties also benefit a ceramic cooktop.

Cleaning a Ceramic Cooktop with a Dishwasher Tablet–Does It Really Work?
Some household tips sound too simple to be true. myHOMEBOOK wanted to know more and decided to test the trick themselves. The test subject: a modern ceramic cooktop that had seen better days. Grease splatters had accumulated around the cooking zones. There were also baked-on saltwater residues and a dull film that clouded the typical shine.
Preparation:
To test the full effectiveness of a dishwasher tablet without interference, the test deliberately avoided special cleaners or pastes as additives and instead used a standard multi-zone tablet. The following items are needed:
- Dishwasher tablet and some water
- Bowl
- Cloth
- Microfiber cloth

Step 1: Spot Cleaning
To remove stubborn and baked-on food residues from the ceramic cooktop, the dishwasher tablet serves as a scouring agent in the first step. To do this, lightly moisten it until it glides gently over the surface. In circular motions, you can target stubborn and baked-on dirt. The test showed an effect surprisingly quickly: Even older baked-on residues could be removed with relatively little pressure, and residues began to loosen almost on their own.
Important: Due to their crumbly consistency, tablets can quickly leave micro-scratches on sensitive ceramic cooktops. Therefore, you should only work spot-wise and with little pressure. This way, crusts and baked-on residues can be easily scraped off. For stubborn dirt, it’s better to use a ceramic cooktop scraper to avoid damage.
Step 2: Shine Finish
If you dissolve the tablet completely in water in a bowl afterward, you get a liquid cleaner that can provide a radiant shine. To do this, apply it with a cloth over the entire ceramic cooktop and gently massage it in. The test showed the great strength of this hack: Even the last streaks or impurities on the cooking surfaces could be effortlessly removed. Even with the first light wipe, there was a noticeable improvement. Especially grease films disappeared quickly, and greasy residues could be almost completely eliminated.
To then remove the cleaner residues from the ceramic cooktop, rinse the cloth thoroughly. Once the surface is free of residues and only damp, you can treat it with a microfiber cloth. In light wiping motions, polish the surface until it shines brightly and no streaks are visible.
