Whether for breakfast, dessert, or just a snack in between: Waffles are always a good idea. However, this episode of “myHOMEBOOK Bakery” isn’t about ordinary waffles, but Brownie Waffles. Hobby baker Mara shows how to make them in the video.

Brownie Waffles–as the name suggests–combine two delicious treats: waffles and brownies. And the best part: it’s not even that unhealthy. Hobby baker and blogger Mara from Mara’s Wonderland has opted for healthier alternatives for some ingredients. In the video, she explains the recipe for quick and tasty Brownie Waffles.

Baking Brownie Waffles–the Ingredients

For our Brownie Waffle recipe, Mara uses some healthier ingredients. For example, whole spelt flour as an alternative to regular wheat flour. Additionally, the healthier sugar alternative erythritol is used, but it can also be replaced with regular sugar. And if you don’t have plant milk on hand, you can use cow’s milk. Here’s what you need for Brownie Waffles:

  • 250g whole spelt flour
  • 100g ground almonds
  • 70g baking cocoa
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 100g erythritol
  • 80ml canola oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 350ml plant milk
  • 100g chopped dark chocolate

    For the topping:
  • Walnuts
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • Unsweetened almond butter

As the name suggests, you’ll need a waffle iron for the Brownie Waffles. You’ll also need some butter or oil for greasing, two mixing bowls, and a whisk.

Baking Brownie Waffles–the Recipe

In the first step, mix all the dry ingredients together. In a second mixing bowl, combine the remaining ingredients and whisk them together. Once everything is well mixed, add the dry mixture. For extra chocolatey goodness, add the chopped chocolate at the end. Then pour the batter into the waffle iron and bake. Before serving the waffles, top them with delicious toppings. Done!

In the video above in the article, Mara explains how she goes through the recipe step by step and what to keep in mind. Enjoy baking!
