Many households have been asked to pay increased advance payments in recent months, whether for electricity or gas. Energy saving has become a guiding principle. It seems fitting that the discount retailer Lidl is offering a programmable radiator thermostat at a supposedly unbeatable price of just under 10 euros (starting October 20). But there’s a catch to this bargain offer.
What can Lidl’s digital thermostat do?
According to Lidl, this thermostat can save up to 30 percent on heating costs because it is programmable. You can set when the heating should reach a certain temperature. At night, you might want a different temperature than during the day. The heating thermostat even includes a vacation function. Daylight saving time and standard time adjust automatically, and four heating and saving times can be programmed per day.
Another feature is the so-called “window-open detection.” The device detects temperature fluctuations and temporarily turns off the heating function when you ventilate. The thermostat also has a child lock and frost protection function.

Who is the affordable heating thermostat suitable for?
In fact, Lidl’s radiator thermostat can be attached to any standard radiator. The installation is described as easy, and according to the product description, the appropriate adapters are included. With pre-installed programs, the device is also ready to use immediately; you don’t need an app or a smart home system.

The catch
In the current times, when people save wherever they can, it’s easy to imagine how high the demand for Lidl’s digital thermostat will be–especially at this low price. It’s all the more surprising that it is already sold out in Lidl’s online shop. There is also no indication of whether the stock will be replenished.
When asked how to get one of the thermostats if they are already sold out online, myHOMEBOOK received no response from Lidl despite multiple inquiries before the publication of this article.
