Plants enliven our gardens and especially our homes, if they survive. Some plants can be a bit tricky to care for. The company Fyta says that with the help of plant sensors and an AI-supported app, they “give plants a voice,” making care significantly easier. Inventors Claudia Nassif and Alexander Schmidt will present the sensors at the season premiere of “Die Höhle der Löwen” (The German language version of Dragon’s Den) on August 25 (VOX, 8:15 p.m.) and hope for a deal. myHOMEBOOK spoke with Claudia Nassif to find out what lies behind the so-called “Plant-Fitness-Trackers.”

The Idea Behind the Smart Plant Sensors

The idea arose from everyday observations, Nassif explains: “Today we track everything—our health, our pets, even streets or trash cans. But with plants, we still rely on so-called implicit knowledge, meaning experiences, observations, trial and error.” She explains that people often say ‘you know what a plant needs when, for example, the leaves droop or turn yellow’. “But that’s like only feeding or watering your cat when it already shows signs of deficiency. Plants are the most important foundation of our life. That’s why it was clear to me: This has to change.”

Who Are the Plant-Fitness-Trackers For?

“Our target group is everyone who owns plants—from beginners to professionals,” Nassif explains. “Some just want support in everyday life to keep their plants healthy. Others enjoy data and like to discover what’s going on in their plants.” The sensors are intended to help both groups and ensure that the relationship with their plants becomes “easier and more beautiful.” The trackers are not only suitable for private individuals, but also for “companies, municipal facilities, and professional users who want to maintain their green spaces efficiently and data-driven.”

How the Plant Sensors Work

The Plant-Fitness-Trackers measure environmental parameters such as soil moisture, light, nutrient content, or temperature. In conjunction with an intuitive app, they analyze the results and provide individual care tips, explains Claudia Nassif. These sensors are suitable for both houseplants and garden plants. Before use, however, you must inform the tracker which plant it will be monitoring. “First, the user takes a photo of their plant, and the app automatically recognizes the type. We already have over 5,500 species in our database. We start with proven benchmarks. Over time, our system learns better—through sensor data, photos, and user information. This way, the values become more accurate and adapt to the specific plant, season, and growth phase.” If you plan to use the trackers for a bed with different plants, the inventors recommend one tracker per plant species.

What Do the Plant Sensors from Fyta Cost?

Even before the broadcast of “Die Höhle der Löwen,” it is possible to purchase the Plant-Fitness-Trackers in the online shop. The starter set is available for pre-order and costs 69.99 euros (as of August 25). Whether the prices will remain the same after the broadcast on August 25, 2025, is currently unknown.

Plant-Fitness-Trackers on “Die Höhle der Löwen”

It’s rare for a million to be requested on “Die Höhle der Löwen,” but the inventors of Fyta dared to try and narrowly missed. “We had really good conversations with the teams of Carsten Maschmeyer and Janna Ensthaler. In the end, we jointly decided that it doesn’t fit strategically right now,” Nassif reveals.

What Happened After the Show

“After the recording, we were able to successfully complete our financing round with our existing investors. At the same time, we worked with full energy on the new generation of our products. By the end of September, the first devices will hit the market—the first production batch was even sold out in pre-sale. That gives us incredible momentum, and we are very excited about what’s to come,” says Claudia Nassif.
