How to Paint Radiators
If you’re building or renovating a house or apartment, you can choose colorful radiators from the start. There is already a wide selection of colorful models available in specialty stores. For everyone else, painting is the only option–which is easy to do.
First, check the radiator for rusty spots and sand them down beforehand, roughening the radiator with sandpaper. If the spots are too large, it’s best to leave this to a heating specialist. Then, it’s time to paint.
It’s important to use the right type of paint. Since radiators are usually warm during the heating season, a suitable paint must be chosen. Specialty radiator paints are available in hardware stores and home improvement centers–acrylic or synthetic resin paints can withstand the consistently high temperatures.
Start by applying the paint with a brush on narrow and hard-to-reach areas. For larger surfaces, use a paint roller. Depending on the result, a second coat is often needed.
