In the coming year, the furniture market will see many new trends, but familiar ones will also continue to accompany us. Interior designer and myHOMEBOOK author Odett Schumann reveals the home trends for 2023.
The new year is just around the corner. It’s time to take a peek through the keyhole to see what home trends await us in 2023. What’s in, what’s out, and what’s coming? myHOMEBOOK has the answers.
1. Cheerful Design
For some time now, certain items have been catching the eye, particularly vases and lamps, but also side tables and lounge chairs, due to their distinctly quirky designs. Their almost exaggeratedly curved shapes make objects made of glass, ceramics, or upholstery materials appear cheerful.
The smooth, flowing design, which seems to be cast in one piece, is reminiscent of nature, with all its imperfections. Perfection is not the goal of this home trend. Objects can be crooked or flawed. This way, flower vases, table lamps, and coffee tables become tasteful sculptures in the room thanks to their original, unique appearance.
2. Dynamic Color Worlds

Color worlds will also gain more vibrancy and dynamism in the coming year. A first harbinger of this is the Pantone color for 2023: Viva Magenta. The strong red tone, which actually comes from the warm color spectrum, also reminds one of the cooler, bluish-purple.
This tone primarily guides the rest of the palette: With a zesty orange, a gentle peach tone, an intense fuchsia, or a bright lemon yellow, more warm, energizing tones are expected in the coming year. To balance, there will also be some green and blue tones. Gray and black will also play a prominent role, especially in furniture and floor design.
3. Wood Panels for the Wall
Wood panels on the wall not only look special, but they also improve room acoustics. Often, the individual panels are backed with felt mats, which dampen sound propagation. The naturally appealing cladding enhances walls visually, whether as a single wide strip or even as a complete wall surface.

Wood panels can also be easily installed on ceilings or slanted walls, such as an attic slope. As a home trend, the panels will provide a modern-minimalist look in 2023, but they can also be complemented with additional accessories like wall clocks, lamps, or pictures.
4. Wellness Comfort at Home
This trend is primarily a home trend for the soul. In challenging times, as we have been experiencing for some time, there is a great longing for a retreat that provides peace, strength, and warmth. Therefore, in 2023, one’s own four walls should be primarily one thing: soothing and cozy. How this home trend looks is up to personal imagination and individual needs.
For some, it should be a bathroom with a wellness character, while for others, a specially designed yoga or meditation area brings the desired comfort effect. Others, however, need a kind of cozy corner in the living or bedroom. Equipped with a comfortable lounge chair, a side table for a cup of tea, and soft pillows and blankets, relaxation is easily achieved.
5. Dried Flowers for Romance
Nature remains an indispensable element in home decor. Thus, pampas grass, drumsticks, silver, and cotton branches will clearly be among the selected home trends in 2023. The dreamy charm of dried flowers inevitably brings a lot of romance into one’s home, which we don’t want to do without in the coming year.
Aesthetically arranged in large floor vases, the delicate grasses and stalks receive just the right attention. This home trend can also be reinterpreted as inspiration for floral wall art, as delicate hand-painted designs on ceramics, or as embroidered patterns on textiles.

6. Natural Stones Are Coming
Travertine has been used in architecture for walls and floors for many centuries. Recently, the sand-colored, porous limestone, covered with many small holes, is increasingly being used as furniture or accessories.

In the coming year, travertine as a home trend for 2023 will continue to make an impressive and tasteful mark. Whether as a kitchen countertop, coffee and side table, or even as a soap dish, the warm color and character-rich texture of travertine stand in serious competition with the also popular marble and terrazzo. These two qualities also represent a lot of uniqueness, which will be seen frequently in living spaces in 2023. Marbled designs on floors and bookends or accessories like coasters in terrazzo look will bring even more nature into one’s home in the coming year.
7. Sustainable Living
Sustainable living, in all its facets, will also be a home trend in 2023. It can now even be considered a general attitude. For younger generations, it is completely natural to furnish their homes predominantly sustainably for the sake of the environment. People often turn to old furniture and accessories from flea markets and grandma’s attic or simply build them themselves.
A shelf that gets a second life as an upcycling project or a bed designed and created in the DIY principle requires no new products and is always a unique piece. The growing enthusiasm for natural materials and green plants will increase in 2023 and is understood as part of a new healthy, environmentally conscious, and resource-saving lifestyle. Houseplants not only improve the indoor climate but also bring natural splashes of color into the interior.
