Capsule coffee machines are now found in many households. There’s now a similar option for tea. myHOMEBOOK tested one of the most well-known models: the “Avoury One” tea machine.
There are always products that are heavily promoted on social media. This includes the “Avoury One” tea machine. After asking around the editorial office, almost everyone had at least heard of this tea machine—mostly through platforms like Instagram. That’s reason enough to take a closer look at the tea machine. myHOMEBOOK editor Katharina Regenthal tested it.
What the “Avoury” Tea Machine Is Supposed to Do
I enjoy drinking tea—but I’m not a tea fanatic. I neither pay attention to the right temperature nor do I often manage to get the steeping time right. The “Avoury One” tea machine is supposed to solve all these problems. The manufacturer promises precise tea preparation with maximum enjoyment. Every cup of perfectly brewed tea is just a button press away, according to the company. Cold, bitter, or stale tea will be a thing of the past.
The tea machine is a kitchen gadget designed to make tea preparation easier. As with some coffee machines, the tea machine also uses capsules. Only the brand’s own tea capsules can be used, with more than 30 varieties available.
Price
If you buy the tea machine directly from the manufacturer, it costs 219 euros. At other specialty stores, it’s available for around 155 euros. Both offers include a starter pack with eight different tea capsules, a user manual, a tea guide, and a water filter.
Cleaning capsules are not included—eight of them cost an additional 6.50 euros. The liquid descaler costs ten euros and is also available online. The tea boxes always contain eight capsules and cost between 3.99 and 5.89 euros.
The “Avoury One” Tea Machine Tested
First Impression and Appearance
The first impression is more than good. Even the way the tea machine is packaged is delightful: Instead of plastic bubble wrap, it’s wrapped in a cloth. The machine itself is visually appealing. The “Copper Cream” color looks high-quality, stylish, and modern—a device you’d gladly place in your kitchen, provided there’s room next to all the other machines that accumulate over time. The housing appears high-quality, and the tea machine is surprisingly slim. I expected it to be larger, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Function and Handling
Before I can brew my first tea, I need to set up the machine. First, you set the water hardness, then insert the supplied water filter. Then you’re ready to go.
Tea preparation is simple and intuitive. A booklet lists all the tea varieties. Besides the aromas, it also includes steeping time, temperature, and intensity. After selecting a tea capsule, you just place it in the top opening—the machine takes care of the rest. It reads the steeping time, temperature, and intensity. You can then adjust the fill amount and steeping time yourself. Like a coffee machine, the tea is brewed and flows into the cup.
Function of the App
There’s also an app for the tea machine. It connects to the machine, allowing you to control steeping time and intensity via smartphone instead of directly on the device. You can also start the machine and the brewing process, while a timer runs until your tea is ready. You could insert the capsule in the evening and activate the machine from bed in the morning—though it shouldn’t be too far away. In my case, two rooms were too far for the Bluetooth connection.
If you register your tea machine in the app, it also shows water consumption and when the next descaling is due. How useful this is remains to be seen—for me personally, I don’t see much added value in it for now.
Noise Level
The noise level might interest some when considering another kitchen appliance. Of course, this is always somewhat subjective—I found the tea machine’s noise level to be normal, comparable to a coffee machine or kettle. Not particularly quiet, but not disturbingly loud either.
Taste
Besides handling and function, the most important part of the test is the taste. Does the “Avoury” tea machine deliver on its promise to brew each cup perfectly at the touch of a button? The tea varieties can be convincing in terms of aroma. Sniffing the opened capsule makes you want the tea.
In the brewed state, the aroma is not as intense—and the taste is initially rather subtle. Even though a specific steeping time is recommended, everyone must find out for themselves whether they prefer it more intense or not. Personally, I had to increase the steeping time for all the varieties I tested to fully taste the aroma.
Cleaning and Descaling
The “Avoury” tea machine indicates when it needs cleaning or descaling. For cleaning, special cleaning capsules from the manufacturer are required—these were not included in the delivery, so I couldn’t perform a cleaning. The same goes for descaling. I would have needed the “Avoury” liquid descaler.
Disposal of Capsules
The question of sustainability quickly arises with the capsules. After all, you’re producing more waste. The “Avoury” tea machine addresses this with its own recycling concept. A bag was included in the delivery, which can be filled with up to 35 empty tea capsules. Using a QR code, you can create a free return label and send the capsules back to the manufacturer, where they can be processed into equivalent material. Alternatively, you can dispose of the capsules in the yellow bin. The bag can be reordered online for free.

Pros and Cons
During the test of the tea machine, I noticed several positive points—but also negative ones. Here’s an overview of the pros and cons:
Pros
- visually appealing design
- easy handling and instructions
- option to return used capsules
- preset steeping time and temperature
Cons
- app offers no added value for use
- only one cup can be brewed
- own tea varieties cannot be used
- intensity can only be adjusted with the next capsule
Conclusion
Overall, the “Avoury One” tea machine is a great eye-catcher in the kitchen—provided you have enough space. Apart from that, the design is really nice to look at, high-quality, and stylish. For me, as a tea drinker, but not a tea fanatic, the tea preparation is practical and simple to implement. I don’t have to worry about the right temperature or steeping time. These are clearly big advantages.
However, I find it a disadvantage that I can only prepare one cup at a time. I also find it unfortunate that I can’t adjust immediately—if the taste isn’t intense enough for a variety, I can only change it with the next cup of tea. With a classic tea bag, I could at least leave it in the cup a little longer.
