Making Christmas Stars from Clothespins – Instructions
Neither lengthy preparations nor hours of finger acrobatics and a complicated guide are needed for this DIY idea. In just a few steps, wooden clothespins can easily be transformed into festive DIY decor pieces:
- Remove the metal clips to take apart the clothespins.
- Now glue two parts of the clothespin together at the back with hot glue.
- Glue a piece of string between two individual parts once per Christmas star. This will be the star’s hanger.
- Arrange the glued parts into stars or snowflakes as desired. Be sure to leave enough large surfaces for subsequent gluing!
- Fix the arranged shapes one by one with hot glue and let them cool.
- Optional: Paint or spray the stars with acrylic paint. If you like colorful stars but want to skip this step, you can use colored clothespins from the craft store.
- Finally, decorate the stars or snowflakes as desired.

3 Tips from the myHOMEBOOK Editorial Team
- Particularly beautiful stars are created when you slightly offset two of the crafted stars on top of each other. If you like, you can also place a smaller star on a larger one.
- If you use regular-sized clothespins, the stars or snowflakes can also be used wonderfully as winter coasters for pots or teapots.
- When crafting Christmas stars with children, use wood glue or craft glue instead of hot glue. These are safer and stick just as well.
