Cleaning the household is a never-ending task. Once you have successfully cleaned one area, the next is already dusty or dirty again. Fortunately, there are areas of the home that you can easily neglect for a while when cleaning. Which things are cleaned more often than necessary?
You don’t always have the time or motivation to clean the entire apartment. After all, you also want to spend time with friends and family or pursue your hobbies. Nevertheless, certain areas of the home should be cleaned at least once a week – others even daily. Efficient time management is the be-all and end-all here. In addition, you shouldn’t spend time cleaning areas that you don’t actually need to clean. In fact, there are things that don’t need to be cleaned as often – at least not more often than necessary.
1. Mirrors
A mirror surface not only shows the outer face of its owner but also the many grains of dust that settle on the surface. For a clear view, it is important to clean your mirror regularly. However, this soiling is more of a visual problem than a hygienic one. So you don’t need to clean your hallway mirror too often.
This does not apply to mirrors that are touched, such as hand mirrors. The mirror in the bathroom should not be overlooked when cleaning either. Not only dust but also water splashes, including soap residue, can be found here.
2. Clean Curtains and Drapes once a year
Admittedly, this is an area that is usually overlooked when cleaning the home anyway. But that doesn’t matter. In most cases, it is sufficient to wash your curtains twice a year. Before washing, you should remove any weighting rods or similar items. You should also remove the plastic hooks for hanging. Curtains and drapes can then simply be cleaned in the washing machine at 30 degrees Celsius. The number of revolutions should be between 400 and 800. It is advisable to remove the dust between washes throughout the year – this may be necessary, especially with floor-length curtains.
3. Do Not Clean Wooden Floors Too Often
Wood and water are rarely a good combination. Especially with a real wood floor, you should avoid the floor coming into contact with (too much) water. The liquid not only causes stains but can also cause the organic material to expand. You can also see the swelling. As the wood becomes “bigger,” and there is no room for it at the sides, it bulges upwards. The extent to which a wooden floor expands when it comes into contact with water depends on the type of wood and the workmanship, among other things.
To prevent damage to the wooden floor, it should be cleaned with as little moisture as possible. Mopping should be done with a damp cloth about once a month. Apart from that, it is sufficient to vacuum the floor. Stains can be removed with a damp cloth.

4. Espresso Maker
Over time, coffee lovers find their favorite way to prepare the wake-up bean brew. Some prefer a fully automatic coffee machine, others need something stronger and resort to an espresso maker for the stove. You don’t have to clean it too often. The aroma remains more intense if you don’t clean the pot after every use. Incidentally, you only need to rinse it out with hot water to clean it – but not after every espresso.
