A stay in the world of an interior designer–something that was hardly possible before–is now a reality: Anyone who has always dreamed of living in the colorful apartment of Gustaf Westman now has the chance. The Swedish designer has listed his Stockholm apartment on the home exchange platform Kindred, making his creative chaos accessible to guests.
A Playful Vision of Colors and Shapes
Gustaf Westman’s apartment perfectly reflects his distinctive style with pastel colors and curved shapes, featuring his own design pieces like the Curvy Mirror and Spiral Stands. He stylishly combines these with iconic design pieces, such as the Togo Sofa by Ligne Roset.
His decor resembles a kind of Scandinavian maximalism with a postmodern twist. This style has helped the designer build a loyal fan base over the past few years. Now, he allows them to visit his apartment. In collaboration with the house-swapping platform Kindred, the designer is offering his apartment for exchange. He himself says about the project on the provider’s Instagram profile:
“It is something very special to let people experience my designs in a personal space where there is no curation, just my own creative chaos consisting of what I am currently working on. It is a complete expression of my world.”

Home Exchange Instead of Hotel
Kindred operates on a points-based system: Members earn credits by offering their homes and spend them to stay elsewhere, without a traditional exchange.
Gustaf Westman’s apartment in Stockholm is now bookable under this system. Those not yet registered can sign up with a personalized code, adding Westman’s apartment directly to their favorites.
A New Experience Format for Design
With this collaboration, Westman is tapping into a new trend in design marketing: Instead of traditional exhibitions, immersive experiences are taking center stage. This is more relevant than ever, as people increasingly value closeness over consumption. Personal insights and direct experiences are becoming more significant for this reason.
Currently, Gustaf Westman is touring Europe with a pop-up exhibition—not in galleries, but in real Kindred homes and apartments. Planned stops include Amsterdam on August 30 and 31, and Madrid on September 6 and 7. Other brands, like the Danish label Vipp, are also adopting similar concepts, such as with their own guesthouse in France.
