The idea behind “Yxstaby” is remarkably contemporary. It’s not the living room that should adapt to gaming, but rather the gaming setup should integrate into everyday life. Gaming today is no longer confined to a specially designated gaming room. The console is in the living room, the laptop ends up on the dining table, and the controller lies between sofa cushions and the remote control.
This is where the collection comes in. Many of the furniture pieces are movable, offer hidden storage, or serve multiple functions. The goal is to transform the gaming area back into a normal part of the living space after the last game. Ikea brings its experience with everyday living situations, while Xbox contributes its expertise on gamers’ needs. Designers from both companies worked closely together on each product. The collection includes nine pieces, priced between 15 and 130 euros.
The controller becomes a piece of furniture
The collection becomes particularly exciting where the design language of the Xbox controller transforms into interior elements. A D-Pad becomes a cushion, another controller detail is reimagined as a shiny stainless steel plate, and even the iconic thumbstick takes on a completely new function.
The most striking design is the thumbstick stool. Its shape is based on the original 3D data of an Xbox controller. What is usually moved with the thumb becomes a seat here. Even the characteristic texture of the controller has been retained, but with a purpose: to provide grip while sitting. The stool can also tilt like a thumbstick, playfully responding to movements.

Yxstaby’s focus is not solely on the typical gaming look, as shown by the functional furniture. The mobile TV cabinet, for example, is on wheels and can be moved to wherever gaming is happening. The back offers storage for consoles, controllers, and other accessories, while cables can be neatly managed.
The side table follows this principle as well. It can also be rolled and provides space for controllers, which can be stored and charged behind sliding doors. This way, part of the gaming equipment disappears from view without needing to be gathered for the next game.
For those who don’t have a separate gaming room, the small storage solution might be of interest. The toolbox offers space for controllers, cables, and hardware and can also serve as a laptop stand when closed. This allows the dining table to be easily converted back to a dining table after a gaming session.

Visually, Ikea remains true to its Scandinavian-inspired style. Instead of a complete gaming look with dark surfaces, aggressive shapes, and striking lighting, neutral tones like white, black, and beige dominate. The typical Xbox green is also used, but only selectively.
The color appears where it also provides orientation, such as on bags, shelves, compartments, and other storage solutions. This makes the collection feel less like a classic merchandise set and more like a home collection with playful references. This restraint makes the collection appealing for spaces where gaming is not meant to dominate the entire decor.

For those who want to consciously showcase their Xbox passion, there is also a suitable piece. A mirrored display box is designed to highlight controllers, figures, and other gaming collectibles. Instead of hiding them in a drawer, they become part of the wall decor.
Yxstaby also rethinks seating beyond the classic gaming chair. The lounge chair has an integrated pocket underneath where controllers and other accessories can be stored. A removable headrest provides additional comfort, while the design is intentionally more homely than many traditional gaming chairs.
