Clean before folding the umbrella
Before storing the sun umbrella for winter, it should be thoroughly cleaned. First, gently remove leaves, pollen, and other loose dirt with a soft brush. Dried-on dirt should be soaked with water first and then gently wiped off. For tougher stains, a bit of mild detergent can be foamed with lukewarm water and applied with a soft sponge. Then, rinse the fabric thoroughly with clear water. It’s best to avoid using a pressure washer, as the strong water pressure can damage seams or the fabric. It’s especially important to let the sun umbrella dry completely while fully open before folding and storing it. This helps prevent moisture and mold in the fabric. It’s also crucial to use a detergent recommended by the manufacturer for the sun umbrella. Using the wrong cleaning soap can destroy the umbrella’s waterproofing.

No protection without a cover
A protective cover for the sun umbrella is also important. It ensures that the umbrella stays dry and is protected from stains and other environmental influences. The cover should be tailored to fit the shape, so it wraps the umbrella perfectly without creases. Naturally, the umbrella cover should also be properly closed with a zipper and drawstring to ensure the promised protection.
Store the sun umbrella correctly
The location where you store the sun umbrella is particularly important. Ideally, place it in an enclosed area to avoid contact with cold air and related dirt. A shed or attic is particularly suitable for this. If that’s not possible, at least try to place it somewhere protected from above, such as under an overhang. Additionally, before storing, you can apply a thin layer of maintenance oil to protect the frame from rust.
If these points are observed and the sun umbrella is carefully stored, nothing will stand in the way of its use in the next season.
